ABOUT
The Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention birthed the idea for FBSS after noticing a gap between mental health and the faith-based community. Many people who are struggling with substance misuse problems typically turn first to their spiritual leaders, who are often ill-equipped to effectively aid those in need of assistance and relief. The FBSS program is an interfaith program that aims to prepare faith leaders to reach individuals in need and to participate in improving the overall quality of life for their communities.
TRAINING
To obtain certification, participants will need to be a resident of Alabama and attend a 16-hour program designed by ASAP to educate and equip faith leaders with the knowledge, tools and resources to effectively assist those dealing with substance use disorders.
ROLE
Responsible for becoming recertified every 2 years (8 hours)
Encourages other religious leaders to obtain their FBSS certification. Works to remove the stigma surrounding faith and mental health services. Provides certified resources to practitioners and other consumers in need.
